Widely known as ‘the land of fire and ice’ and situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, just south of the Arctic Circle, Iceland is the largest of a series of islands positioned on the submarine mountain chain known as the Mid Atlantic Ridge. With volcanoes, tremendous waterfalls, spouting geysers, hot springs and mud springs, Iceland is sure to surprise and amaze you. Reykjavik, is one of the least crowded cities in the world and one of the least polluted, as all its power is from geothermal energy.

The incredible geographical features of Iceland are definite ‘must sees’ and we include the famous Golden Circle with Gullfoss, and the Golden Waterfall, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe. We also visit the Strokkur Geyser, which reliably ‘spouts’ every three minutes! We travel north of Reykjavik to a more remote area and enjoy the excitement of the fjords. A visit to Iceland is not complete without relaxing in the famous Blue Lagoon. A guided tour of Reykjavik, the capital city is also included.

Sightseeing
A city tour of Reykjavik, the world’s most northerly capital city. We visit the Tjörnin, a small lake which is a haven for wildfowl. We also pass the city’s salmon river, a testament to pollution free Reykjavik. From there we venture into the contrasting modern part of the city where we see one of the city’s most famous landmarks, Hallgrímskirkja Church, a modern building with magnificent views across the city roof tops.
Agriculture
Affected by the short growing season and unusual nature of the landscape and weather conditions, unique agricultural enterprises have developed. The lack of insects and pests means the use of insecticides and herbicides is very low and the long hours of daylight during the summer allows grass to grow exceptionally well.
With over half a million sheep grazing on the highlands in the summer months, so the better pastures can be used for hay, lamb is an important export. Just under 600 dairy farms with approximately 26,000 cows, make the country self-sufficient in dairy products.

Once more Bay Farm Tours scored
10 out of 10
with the Lake Garda holiday. I enjoyed every minute. The friendship and atmosphere amongst the group was exceptional.
