Glorious Paris, situated on the river Seine is a romantic city, brimming with history and still influential in the realms of fashion and culture. A large part of the city, including the river Seine, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visiting Normandy and Brittany allows us the opportunity to experience the quieter side of French life. We visit one of the Normandy landing beaches, made so famous when on 6th June 1944 allied troops landed in over 5,000 small boats, at the beginning of the D Day landings. There are moving tributes throughout the area, commemorating all who took part in this astounding feat; along with the remains of the Mulberry harbours, that arrived from the UK

Highlights

Normandy is the area from where William the Conqueror set out in 1066 to invade Britain. There are sandy beaches and rocky cliffs, plus inland areas of small towns & villages, in addition to gentle rolling farmland, fields & hedgerows, stables, racehorses and of course it is home to Normandy cattle. The Normandy beaches are most remembered for the Allied Forces landing on beaches code named Omaha, Juno, Utah, Gold and Sword. Evidence of the D-Day landings can still be seen today, and the beaches are still known by the landing day names.

Sightseeing

Le Mont Saint Michel. The magic begins as we cross the causeway to this impressive World Heritage site. The island rises out of the sea, topped by a gravity defying monastery, just on the border of Brittany and Normandy. Formerly a Benedictine Monastery and at one time a political prison it is a magnificent sight and one of europe's major pilgramage destinations.

Agriculture

The regions of Normandy and Brittany are synonymous with French agriculture. With its mild climate Brittany is suited to dairy farming and poultry breeding, butter and chickens are regional exports. Salt marsh lamb is also produced in the region. Brittany is also one of France’s leading vegetable growing regions with artichokes, cauliflowers, carrots & potatoes among the most important crops. Fishing is also a very important industry in Brittany, the region has many fishing ports

It is difficult to find words adequate to express our thanks for the

wonderful tour  we have just experienced. It is great to go to another country and meet and talk to the native people to get a “feel” of their lifestyle and problems. The agricultural, sightseeing visits, and itinerary were so well organised. First class hotels,

a superb group of people,

and weather to help, we doubt the tour could have been better.

What do you like about Bay Farm Tours?

Holidays are tailored to understanding the very 'ground' and farming life of a country. I enjoyed meeting fellow travellers, and real producers working the land, living hardworking lives.  Also there was lots to discuss and share as well as laughter and happy camaraderie. Excellent tour leaders.
