The fertile southern part of the upper Rhine Valley is an important agricultural region, with many orchards and vineyards, which produce wines that rank among the finest produced in Germany. Germany’s largest continuous forest area, the Black Forest, spreads westward to the banks of the Rhine River. Valleys break its uniformity, and over the years low-lying portions have filled with water, with many small lakes now contributing to the forest’s scenery. The Black Forest edges onto the Hotzen Forest (Hotzenwald) in the south, where many lakes and reservoirs feed numerous power stations. Fruit is grown in the valleys cutting into the western escarpment, most commonly grapes, plums and cherries used in kirsch, the famous Black Forest cherry brandy.

A day from your tour
We start the day with a ferry ride over Lake Constance to Mainau Island. The island is kept as a flower garden with seasonal displays, a butterfly house and magnificent views of the lake.
We will enjoy free time and lunch on the island before catching the ferry to the mainland village of Meersburg, a beautiful and historic place for you to explore.
We top off this glorious day with a visit to an apple farm along the lake shore where we enjoy a tasting experience.
Return to our hotel to relax before our evening meal is served.
Customers love
Visiting a very interesting farm in the hills of the Black Forest where the owner as well as still being active in livestock farming, has diversified and now has a bakery, a distillery and has developed an outlet for the producers of many local artisan foods. He has also converted some old farm buildings into holiday accommodation. It would be rude not to have lunch here!
It is difficult to find words adequate to express our thanks
for the wonderful tour we have just experienced. It is great to go to another country and meet and talk to the native people to get a “feel” of their lifestyle and problems. The agricultural, sightseeing visits, and itinerary were so well organised. First class hotels,
a superb group of people, and weather to help, we doubt the tour could have been better.
