Join us on this East of England tour, taking in the beautiful coastline of Suffolk and the intriguing National Park of the Norfolk Broads. Both counties are unique in their own way, and we explore the incredible and distinctive ways that make these two counties well worth visiting.

Norfolk is known as being ‘as flat as a week-old pint of beer’ – or so we’re told, but in fact Cromer Ridge reaches the heights of 338 feet above sea level making it the highest point in the whole of East Anglia – not so flat after all! Suffolk is surrounded by fertile farmland and gentle coastline.

Agriculture

Norfolk is known as Britain’s breadbasket, and the majority of commercial arable farming is found here. Its warm climate and low-lying land, with its fertile soil, make it ideally suited for growing wheat, barley and other combinable crops.

Suffolk is also a county blessed with fertile soil, with farmers producing everything from free range pork, lamb, and crops such as potatoes, cauliflowers, carrots and apples. The vast majority of intensive farming permits in Norfolk and Suffolk are for poultry, but around 20% are for pigs.

A Highlight

No visit would be complete without visiting Sandringham Estate, also known as the Norfolk Retreat of the Royal Family, with a history dating back to the Domesday Book of 1086. The gardens at Sandringham were first opened to the public by King Edward VII in 1908 with the museum opening in 1930. It wasn’t until Her Majesty the Queen’s Silver Jubilee year of 1977 that the house was opened to the public.

Your Hotel

Our hotel for the duration of the tour is the 4* Angel Hotel, located right in the heart of historic Bury St Edmunds.

The hotel affords the best spot in town, taking pride of place atop Angel Hill, with views across to the abbey ruins and St. Edmundsbury Cathedral.

The Angel Hotel is a former historic coaching inn spread across Angel Hill.

Charles Dickens stayed at the hotel on two occasions, once in 1859 and again in 1861, when he gave readings in the adjacent Athenaeum.

Now I have got my feet back on the ground after a

truly marvellous tour

I wanted to write and thank all involved at Bay Farm Tours. The itinerary was absolutely spot on and there was something new every day.

The organisation was excellent and the whole group gelled so well, which made it even better.

I am sure we made life long friends forever from the tour.
